Folk Impressions

Transformations of Folk Music from the North

Folk songs from Norway and the Hebrides are transformed into impressionistic pieces for solo piano by composers Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Alf Hurum, and Marjory Kennedy-Fraser in this recital by Steven Luksan.

Songs of Prayer and Promise

Ellaina Lewis, soprano, joins Steven Luksan, piano and composer, for an exploration of American music about faith and love, spirit and soul, and human nature.  On the program is music by composers Amy Beach, Florence Price, Harry Burleigh, and original songs by Steven Luksan to texts by Sandburg, Dickinson, and Tagore.

Flute Fantasy

In collaboration with the Northwest Edvard Grieg Society, the Saltwater Music Series presents Flute Fantasy: a matinée concert exploring 20th century Norwegian Music. Featuring Cassie Lear, flute, Laura Loge, soprano, and Steven Luksan, piano, performing Hildring i speil (The Mirage in the Mirror) by Øistein Sommerfeldt, Vonir i blomtid (Hope in Blossom-time) by Anne-Marie Ørbeck, and rarely-heard Norwegian works for various combinations of this trio by composers Alf Hurum, Eivind Groven, Edvard Grieg, and the NW Edvard Grieg Society's composer-in-residence Steven Luksan.

Spring Rhapsody

Contralto Rachelle Moss joins pianist/composer Steven Luksan for an evening of song cycles celebrating Spring and nature. The concert will feature songs from throughout the English-speaking world, including works by Jean Coulthard (Canada), Dame Ethel Smyth (England), Steven Luksan (USA), and the world premiere of "Sky to Sea," a piano suite by Nicholas Ryan Kelly.

Pride
Songs by Queer Composers

Baritone Darrell J. Jordan joins pianist/composer Steven Luksan for an evening of music by LGBTQ+ composers. The program features songs for voice and piano by Aaron Copland, Benjamin Britten, Samuel Barber, Ned Rorem, Dame Ethel Smyth, and others, along with world premieres by Steven Luksan and Felix Jarrar.
